Article Published 24/11/2022

On 1 November the VisitScotland Business Events team and six of its partners attended and exhibited at CHS Birmingham, at ICC Birmingham. The show, which is in its second year, is one of the largest business events industry tradeshows in the UK outside of London and attracts event planners, agents, PAs and associations based in the North of England and Midlands. This year's show welcomed more than 230 attendees.

The partners in attendance were:

  • Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club
  • Meetings Perthshire
  • Historic Environment Scotland
  • The University of Edinburgh Hospitality and Events Collection
  • InterContinental Edinburgh The George and Voco Grand Central Glasgow
  • Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts

During the event, VisitScotland Business Events hosted a Destination Connection Brunch, alongside Edinburgh-based Mercat Tours, which was attended by 40 people. The brunch provided an opportunity to discuss the work of Mercat Tours and how they support Edinburgh's Grassmarket Community Project.

Mercat Tours Managing Director, Kat Brogan, delivered a compelling talk to attendees at the brunch, offering some insight on the development of the family business, the ways in which the company gives back to the community in meaningful ways, and an unwavering belief that "History is a damn good story. What it needs is a damn good telling."

Theresa Steven, Business Development Manager - UK&I, Business Events, VisitScotland Business Events, said: "CHS Birmingham is an excellent opportunity for team Scotland to meet key agents and organisers from the Midlands. This year was a fantastic show, with attendees having the opportunity to learn about our Journey to Change campaign and for us to discuss our sustainability and CSR initiatives and credentials along with our partners. During the event we met with several corporates and agents from the Midlands and received seven enquiries, totalling £1.4m. We're now looking to drive these opportunities forwards."

The next CHS show will take place in Leeds on 25 April 2023.
