About us

Research and insights

Reliable market insights and data are essential to make informed business decisions. VisitScotland Business Events can help you gain insights into key market territories, and our national research and data projects can help you better understand the nature, size and value of the business events sector in Scotland.

Scottish Association Survey

The Scottish Association Survey has been conducted annually since 2018. The Survey has a targeted scope to better understand the size, scale and value of international association conferences that choose to come to Scotland.

Each year we work with city convention bureaux, leading resorts and venues, to gather data on association events held in Scotland. Criteria include:

  • More than 50 people
  • Event not normally in Scotland / Scotland has been chosen to host among competitor destinations, including in UK
  • Must be an association, society or academic event
  • UK and international delegate attendance, not for a 'Scotland only' audience

To conduct the Scottish Association Survey, our team works closely with city convention bureaux. If you work in the association market, and do not think your events would be included by a city convention bureau and would like to add your events data to our national survey, then please let us know and we'll ensure future surveys come to you. Past reports are available here.

Scottish Business Events Monitor

The Scottish Business Events Monitor is a new research project being launched in 2024.

It's the first time we have gathered data from across Scotland on the full size and value of the business events sector.

This new project relies on partners across Scotland working with VisitScotland and sharing business events related data with us.
