ORGANISATION: World Endometriosis Society
EVENT: 15th World Congress on Endometriosis (WCE2023)
NUMBER OF DELEGATES: 1,200
VENUE: EICC

In May 2023, the 15th World Congress on Endometriosis brought together 1,200 scientists, clinicians, allied health staff and patients from the UK and around the world, with a shared aim of advancing biologic and sociologic understanding of endometriosis, that rapidly translates to improved clinical care.

A line-up of keynote speakers delivered thought provoking presentations over the four-day congress, which was held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC).  On the agenda for discussion was the latest ideas and research, from around the world, on symptoms, treatment, side effects, diet, and the use of social media as both a positive and negative in advocacy.

The keynote speakers have agreed to give thought provoking presentations on a diverse range of topics, including the latest ideas about why only some individuals suffer chronic pain and how we can have treatments with less side effects as well as on topics that are new to the endometriosis audience, such as the role of diet in pain perception and the use of social media as both a positive and negative in advocacy.

The conference programme was complimented with social and networking opportunities to allow delegates to share research, insights and experiences, and to encourage future collaborations in the area of Endometriosis.

Gayle McGuinn, Head of Association Sales at EICC, said: "Hosting an international conference here in Edinburgh has many benefits to Scotland's life science sector.  It gives the life Science community a platform to showcase the exciting and pioneering work taking place in Scotland's capital city.  Conferences are an effective facilitator for people to meet and connect, and to build national and international connections.  The impact a conference can have on the local community is so important. Conferences have the potential to change the lives of people living in Scotland and further afield, whether it is engaging with school children, to excite them about the subject matter and a possible future career in Life Sciences, or even to engage with government to influence political will with a positive change policy."

Professor Philippa Saunders, Joint president - WCE 2023, said: "We hope that by bringing together the best minds, the best clinicians, and the most forward-looking people, we are going to come up with new ways to diagnose and treat the condition. Because it's urgent that we move on with new ways to help the individuals who are suffering with these symptoms."
