Aberdeen Ambassador Network

Earlier this month, the VisitScotland Business Events team attended the soft launch of the Aberdeen Ambassador Network (AAN) at P&J Live.

The AAN, launched by VisitAberdeenshire, is a collaboration of local professionals, academics, business leaders and individuals who want to bring a national or international event, or association conference, to the city. VisitAberdeenshire works in partnership with the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, James Hutton Institute and P&J Live on the AAN.

With over 300 ambassadors in Aberdeen, the network will meet regularly to share best practice, information and contacts.  Through collaboration, the network aims to support ambassadors to create successful bids for future events and showcase the work of Scotland's market-leading sectors.

The benefits of events

The agenda for the soft launch event was focused on how business events can work alongside academia and organisations from across the region to build a stronger business events offering for organisers and delegates.

The evening kicked off with a conversation with the Heads of School and Directors at the University of Aberdeen on the importance and benefits of bringing conferences to the city and why the university should be involved.

This was followed by a series of panel sessions with representatives from VisitAberdeenshire, P&J Live and VisitScotland Business Events who engaged in discussions on the support available, how to start off the process of bidding for an event and funding.

In building the network and connecting local ambassadors across academia, industry and corporate organisations with experts across the events sector, AAN can ensure stakeholders work collaboratively and attract association and sector conferences to Scotland. This will not only benefit the country's cities and regions, but the events that are hosted will provide a platform for transformational change.

Aberdeen's sector strengths

Aberdeen is thriving in a range of sectors; not only is it home to one of Europe's largest clusters of life-science experts, but also it is the market-leader in renewable technologies and carbon decommissioning. It is also a hub for some of the finest food and drink industries not just in Scotland, but in the world.

As the industry moves forward and becomes part of the journey for positive change in our world, it is crucial that we connect people and there is no better way, as seen with the recent COP26, than bringing people to debate, discuss, agree and disagree face-to-face.
